Is this still alive? What is the role of Laion.ai ?

I have to admit that initially, I didn’t really understand OpenAssistant. Upon creating an account it throws you into a “help with data collection” screen with no clear instructions on what to do. Just judging by the name, I went in with the expectation that it is an open-source framework that helps me build autonomous agents.

But it isn’t.

Or at least, I think it isn’t.

Open-source task completion

Per their own website, the project works on becoming “a chat-based and open-source assistant.” Maybe we have a different definition of assistant, but I am looking for solutions that help me build an assistant. So clearly, I am a bit confused that the main role of the website is to source human feedback.

Ok. I guess, I would love to exchange my time for Internet karma and help the team from Laion.ai build a better LLM. Are they really trying to become the European version of OpenAI? I believe in the power of open source. However, I am not fully convinced that the approach really works.

Let me explain why.
